Mar:2005

Well its that time of year again time to get your rods and flies out again.
I already have a report from the Lussa Loch, local anglers Sandy Fraser and Gary Howells were up on the loch before the sun was, on the 15th and both managed a nice rainbow of the 2lb mark, both in good condition. Well done lads this bodes well for the season.
The presentation of prizes will be held in the clubhouse on Friday 18th March come along for a dram if your not busy it kicks off at 7.30pm.
The opening day competition will take place the following day at the Lussa Loch at 2pm.

I would like to close this report on the sad death of my friend and club president David McKillop.
Over the years I knew David he put all his energy into the club building the new boatshed at Auchalochy, the bridge over the burn at Auchalochy, helping with signs and being involved in all the projects the club has undertaken.
He was a great fisherman and character and will be sadly missed by all Kintyre Anglers.
My thoughts and the clubs are with his wife and family

Kintyre Angling club held its opening day competition on the Lussa Loch on 19th March form 2pm to 6pm. The competition was attended by 17 senior & 6 junior anglers. So a good turnout for a cold & misty day.

The juniors did well this year with R.McAulay bagging a rainbow of 1 12oz, young G.McKillop caught another of 1lb 80z shortly after and for a while it looked as if the seniors would have to go back to the drawing board and learn to fish again. The day was saved though as several fish were caught from the other side of the loch and also from the dam.

Jamie ( About time you won something) O'May had the best basket of 2 fish for 2lb 2oz shortly pipping John MacDonald who also had two fish but for 2lb 1 1/2 oz several people were asked to check the weight and old Alec Campbell even put on his glasses to check but the result stood.
Two other large fish were caught, Neil McNaughton had a fish of 1lb 14oz and this was pipped by 1oz by J.Jwynne with a rainbow of 1lb 15oz.
Overall senior winner was Jamie O'May with R.McAulay winning the junior trophy. Well done to the winners and thanks to all who braved the elements.

Below are a few shots of trophy winners which were awarded the night before the opening competition.
