Apr:2004
The loch was stocked on 21st April with 900 Rainbows from 2-5lbs in weight.
Reports already in as can be expected of large catches, I'm happy to say
most anglers are returning fish not needed for the table.
The fish tend to be taking deep at this time so a sinking line or an intermediate
with a weighted point fly could be useful. Files to try are Alexandria
on the point or a beaded lure. Try a colourful dropper like a viva or
a bright clan chief.
Fishing myself with Sandy Fraser on 27th April I managed six for 14.5lbs,all
returned except one. Sandy did just as good with four fish, two returned.
The brown trout in the loch are in peak condition with a marked improvement
in size over last year, maybe a mild winter or competition for food is
causing this, but I've had several fish of 3/4lb and a couple of a pound
on an olive bumble. I lost a cracker in the burn at the head of the loch
but as always the ones that get away are the biggest!
Auchalochy boatshed hopefully will have the final work completed this
week.
Congratulations to John Mcdonald on winning the first competition on
Auchalochy with a single Brownie. Good going considering gale force winds.
The club treasurer has informed me the club now has 34 junior members
which is great news and bodes well for the club, even better several of
the younger anglers using bait last year have now progressed to the fly
rod.
