We don't have an abundance of large rivers in Kintyre, all the rivers are spate activated .

Fishing returns from the rivers, vary each year, much as other rivers in Scotland, although the general trend has been of less fish than in the past, especially Sea trout.

If you get rain, make sure you are on the river the next day as this gives you the best chance of a fish. Each river has it's own rules as they are run by different organizations. All rivers in Scotland are not fishable on a Sunday.

I will discuss tactics and locations next, click on the river of your choice.

Everytime I catch a salmon, even today, I still have a hard time understanding how big the fish looks in relation to the river's size. What's more remarkable is how far the fish has traveled to get there. That they travel thousands of miles is beyond dispute, that we catch them at all is even more remarkable. For our small rivers large trout flies or sea trout flies usually work best. When you read of anglers mentioning large flies & sinking lines for colder weather I don't think they had Kintyres small rivers in mind. With one or two exceptions our rivers just don't have the width & depth to work a two inch brass tube on a fast sinking line on the bottom. Most of your fishing should be done on an intermediate line or a floater, those places where the fish are lying deeper should be tackled with the worm. Please check on local rules as this is restricted in some areas.
