Lussa
loch is the largest loch in Kintyre, but for all that
iit is not over large. At just under 2 miles long it lies 7
miles from Campbeltown and is accessible by car or
foot if you are a dedicated hiker. To get to the Loch
take the first left before you reach Campbeltown
and travel along the single track road.
The loch is a hydro Loch,
as are many inScotland
and was flooded by the damming of the Lussa Burn
in the 1950's.
Stocking 2005 season will
be of approx. 1000 American
Rainbow trout,Size 1.5lbs to 5lbs. Last years
stocking was of Rainbow trout of a 1.5lb average in size.
Permits are from Kintyre Angling Club and are available
from A.P.MacGrorys in Campbeltown.
There are three boats available and also bank fishing,
flyfishing only.Junior members under 12 accompanied
by an adult will be allowed to bait fish in the area marked
red on the map.
Try the areas marked in yellow
on the map,these are
usually productive, but fish can be caught all over the
loch. The loch itself is surrounded by forestryand the
feeding isn't brilliant but because of the lochs size
there are a few decent brownies about and these
are augmented with the stocked fish which will be stocked
early April and late May.
The following fly's will
do well on the Loch:Alexandria,
Kate Mclaren, Black Pennel, Invicta, Clan Chief,
Golden Bumble, Connemara & black and Dunkeld
(the one with the jungle cock eye does best).
Fish can be caught in the
burn at the top end of the
loch, there are a couple of deep parts which fish well
on a deep sunk nymph.Although floating lines work
on most occasions the sunk line also does well and
should be tried if the occasion presents itself.
Prices for the visiting angler
are of good value
and are as follows:
All Lochs Day ticket £12.50
Visitors 2 week all waters ticket £60
Boats £5.
