I've found the areas marked in yellow on the map are usually productive, but fish can be caught all over the loch. The loch itself has a lot of natural feeding for the trout including sticklebacks, shrimp, corixae, leech, damselfly, alder fly, chronomids, heather fly, sedge , Crane fly and even the odd tadpole & spider from the trees. So as you can see tempting the trout can be difficult at times. Wet fly works well in a wave especially a hairy bob fly but will also work well if they are sunk in a small breeze. In no wind/small ripple conditions a small dry will work but don't move it to much. Nymphs will work on Auchalochy and I have caught with them especially suspender buzzers but I prefer the wet fly when conditions allow.

Trout in this loch can appear dour at times but usually make up for this in size. The trout in this loch are wild brownies,No stocking is planned for 2005 season. There are brownies up to 3 lbs in there somewhere!
